Avpril Le Philipponnat, a swiss army captain, settled in Champagne at the beginning of the 16 th century, under François I. In 1522, he was already the owner of vineyards at Ay and Mareuil-sur-Ay, at the heart of the best Pinot Noir growths.

The Philipponnat family and Maison Philipponnat are still working with care and passion to ensure that this long tradition in their wines continues, resolutely searching for quality, in harmony with their terroir and its history.

This book recounts five centuries of the close interweaving of great and small events in the history of Champagne and champagne, through the journey of one of the oldest families in this great wine region.
