This book focuses on the adult stage of the « neuropteroids, » a diverse group of insects traditionally encompassing various orders characterised by hyaline, scaleless wing membranes, sometimes adorned only with fine hairs. The group includes Plecoptera (stoneflies), the super-order Neuropterida (Neuroptera, Megaloptera, Raphidioptera), Trichoptera (caddisflies), and Mecoptera (scorpionflies).

Given the vast number of species - some of which are exceedingly small - I have made a selection for the illustrations, directing readers seeking more comprehensive coverage to specialised works cited within the text.

Approximately a thousand species are meticulously illustrated and described, including details of their biology and the habitats they occupy, with particular emphasis on orders with aquatic larvae. In certain cases, I have also provided illustrations of the genitalia for the relevant species.

The current state of research into insect phylogeny has brought about profound changes in our understanding of these groups. I have strived to reflect these developments and to be as up-to-date as possible at the time of this book's publication.
