Musée des beaux-arts de Dijon : selected works

The Musée des Beaux-Arts de Dijon, which opened to the public in 1799, is one of the oldest museums in France, and also one of the most lavishly endowed, with more than 130 000 artworks. It encapsulates the history of European art, spanning antiquity, prestigious works from the Middle Ages, masterpieces by 17th- and 18th-century artists and leading représentatives of the 19th- and 20th-century artistic currents, as well as the inception of contemporary art. Regional art is also represented in the form of emblematic pieces, some of which were made for the dukes of Burgundy during the Middle Ages.
