Ce volume est consacré à l'oeuvre de Jean-Marie Barotte (1954-2021) et propose le premier regard rétrospectif sur ses recherches artistiques, de son expérience théâtrale à son expérience picturale.

Né en 1954 d'un père français et d'une mère italienne, Barotte rejoint d'abord le monde du théâtre expérimental, dirigé par le grand metteur en scène et peintre Tadeusz Kantor. À partir de la fin des années 1980, le besoin de développer son propre langage surgit en lui et il commence ainsi un cheminement personnel qui le mènera à la peinture.

L'univers expressif de l'artiste ressemble à un voyage intérieur, qui s'inspire continuellement de la littérature et de la philosophie.

Ses oeuvres témoignent d'une profonde réflexion formelle et conceptuelle, de 1991 avec Au commencement était le signe, qui marque le début de son parcours pictural, jusqu'à la série Tout se tient en équilibre précaire, créée en décembre 2020, un mois avant sa mort.

Dedicated to the oeuvre of Jean-Marie Barotte (1954-2021), the book offers the first retrospective look at his artistic research, from theatrical to pictorial experience. Born in 1954 to a French father and an Italian mother, Barotte initially embraced the world of experimental theater, directed by the great director and painter Tadeusz Kantor. Starting from the end of the 1980s, he felt the need to develop his own language, and thus began a personal journey that would lead him to painting.

The artist's expressive world has the physiognomy of an interior journey, which draws continuous inspiration from literature and philosophy.

His works bear witness to a profound formal and conceptual reflection, from 1991 with Au commencement était le signe, marking the beginning of his pictorial journey, up to the series Tout se tient en équilibre précaire, created in December 2020, a month before his death.
